Cebu City – July 18, 2025 | In a beautiful celebration of unity and spiritual renewal, the Sisters of Mary School– Girlstown, Inc. proudly joined Catholic schools from across Cebu in the Mass of the Holy Spirit to formally open School Year 2025–2026.
Held at the historic Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, the Mass brought together administrators, faculty, and student representatives under the banner of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), alongside the Cebu Elementary Principals’ Association (CEPA) and the Cebu Secondary Schools Principals’ Association (CeSSPA).
Presided by Most Reverend Jose S. Palma, D.D., Archbishop of Cebu, the Eucharistic celebration invoked the gifts of the Holy Spirit— wisdom, understanding, counsel, and fortitude— upon all educators and learners as they embark on a new academic journey.
“ We offer this school year to the Holy Spirit, asking for His presence in our teaching, our learning, and our community,” Archbishop Palma said in his homily, urging all Catholic institutions to be bearers of truth, compassion, and formation rooted in faith.
The Sisters of Mary School– Girlstown, Inc., known for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic formation for underprivileged girls, was honored to be among the schools invited to participate in this solemn gathering. The school’ s representatives joined in the offertory procession and contributed liturgical responses during the Mass, exemplifying the school’ s active role in Cebu’ s faith-based educational community.
Clad in formal school attire, the students and faculty from SMS-Girlstown radiated joy and reverence, embodying the values of humility and service taught by the Venerable Fr. Aloysius Schwartz, the school's founder.
“ It was truly a blessing to start the school year this way. Being in one place with other Catholic educators reminds us that we are all part of a bigger mission— to teach not just with excellence, but with faith,” shared one SMS-Girlstown faculty member.
As the school year unfolds, the Sisters of Mary School– Girlstown, Inc. continues to stand in solidarity with Catholic schools across the country, nurturing not only minds but also the hearts and souls of the youth under its care.
