The Sisters of Mary School Girlstown-Talisay, in collaboration with the Araling Panlipunan Department concluded the UN 2024 at the SMS campus on Friday morning, October 31, 2024.
On the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Araling Panlipunan Department led a culminating event themed, "Protecting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Voluntary Isolation and Initial Contact".
The celebration showcased vibrant student performances, featuring Tribal Beats and a Tribal Dance Festival that represented the diverse cultural traditions of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. This event encourages students to respect and empower the rights of the Indigenous Peoples, as well as to know more about their culture, identity, ancestral heritage and their roots, as they represent the different tribes around the world. This will help the Sisters of Mary community to deeply understand the meaning of diversity.
Faculty members also highlighted indigenous cultures by donning traditional costumes from different continents, adding depth to the event’s cultural tribute. In a spirited competition, the Grade 9, 32nd Batch students, took first place in both the Tribal Beats and Tribal Dance categories, earning the title of "Champion of Indigenous Peoples" in this year’s celebration.
