MINGLANILLA, Cebu Sisters of Mary School-Boystown Inc. chess aficionado John Nino Babon outmaneuvered Daniel John Martirez of St. Cecelia’s College during the municipal meet on October 26, 2025.

First match, Babon displayed unbreakable battle tactics and techniques defeating five schools throughout Minglanilla, “My strategy to win the game was to calculate every possible move that my opponent would probably make,” shared Babon.

Scoring six and one-half, Babon topped the board advancing to the championship round, “I learn that you need to focus and understand the position well to dominate the board,” he added.

With two minutes remaining against the seven minutes of the opponent, Babon managed to capture the pawn that eventually would be promoted to queen, and thus making the king mate and with that he scored six points five against the five of the opponents.

On the other hand, Rhayan Redila and Cloud Rata also brought honor to the schools where they garnered a silver medal in table tennis doubles category while in singles b category, Tristan James Carvajal also seized a silver medal.

With much courage and determination, Bert Laurence L. Cruel also won a bronze medal in Singles A category.
