In 1983, Fr. Al came to the Philippines to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award and, with encouragement from Jaime Cardinal Sin, established the Boystown and Girlstown Complex in 1985, providing free food and medical care. In 1990, he expanded his programs to Cebu at the invitation of Cardinal Ricardo Vidal.

Despite battling ALS by 1990, Fr. Al accepted Bishop Jose Maria Hernandez Gonzalez’s invitation to establish Boystown and Girlstown in Mexico. In 1998, Sr. Michaela, his successor, expanded the program to Guadalajara, launching Boystown there on November 15 with support from local leaders.In 2011, at the invitation of Oscar Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga, the Sisters of Mary established Girlstown in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with a city-donated land. The first 80 girls were welcomed in 2012, receiving education and vocational training. Additional facilities, including a workshop and swimming pool, were later added. In 2015, land was donated for Boystown.
GUATEMALABRAZILTANZANIA

In 1996, Archbishop Prospero Penados and President Arzu invited the Sisters of Mary to establish their charitable program in Guatemala. By 1997, the Sisters opened free medical and dental clinics, and in 1998, they welcomed the first students to the Boystown and Girlstown Complex in Zone 13. 

In 2000, Jose Cardinal Falcão invited the Sisters of Mary to begin their charitable work in Brasilia, Brazil. With city support, they received a 25-hectare land donation and opened a Medical and Dental Clinic in 2002, serving 50-75 outpatients daily. The Girlstown complex includes a seven-story building, gymnasium, workshop, and swimming pool. 

In response to an invitation from Cardinal Polycarp Pengo and Apostolic Nuncio Rugambwa, the Sisters of Mary launched their program in Tanzania in 2018. With a 40-acre land donation from the archdiocese, they quickly began construction. By May 2019, 153 girls were admitted.
